How Do Veneers Work?
A dental veneer is an extremely thin, shell-like tooth covering that is custom-made to fit your tooth. We create the veneer out of smooth, beautiful porcelain, which should blend seamlessly in with the rest of your teeth.
It usually takes two dental visits to create and fit porcelain veneers, but the process is generally easy and comfortable for patients. During an initial consultation, the dentist will carefully examine your dental situation to ensure that veneers are the best solution for you. After confirming your eligibility for dental veneers, the dentist can prepare your teeth to receive veneers.
In order to prep the teeth, the dentist may remove some tooth enamel. If that’s the case, the dentist will use a local anesthetic for comfort. We remove enamel to create a perfect bonding surface for the veneer where it can cover flaws without appearing bulky.
After prepping the tooth or teeth, our dentist will take impressions for the laboratory. The laboratory will use the impressions to make your custom veneers. If needed, we may provide temporary veneers to cover your teeth while you wait on your custom veneers.
The final step includes another visit to our clinic for your permanent, custom veneers. The dentist will bond the veneers to your teeth, making sure the colour match and fit are excellent before you leave.
Am I a Good Candidate for Veneers?
Dental veneers work well for many patients, but they aren’t the right solution for everyone. When you visit Budgewoi Dental, Dr Sanjeev Mishra or Dr Hooman Atai will conduct a thorough exam to make sure dental veneers are suitable for your situation.
Situations where dental veneers are not recommended include:
- The patient grinds his or her teeth
- The patient’s teeth have extensive tooth decay
- The patient’s tooth structure won’t support veneers
